Stand: 16. Oktober 2026

Roughly Calories is a calorie tracker for iPhone that estimates from a photo, a sentence or a barcode, deliberately rough, honestly labelled, and without an account.
Roughly Calories estimates the calories and macros of a meal from a photo, a spoken or typed description, or a barcode. Every AI estimate carries a “≈”; exact values appear only where they are exact, for barcodes. There is no account, no tracking and no feed; entries stay on the phone.
Calorie apps with photo recognition show a number accurate to the kilocalorie after the photo. Roughly Calories does not: a photo estimate is rough, and the app says so. Every AI estimate carries a “≈”; exact values appear only where they are exact, for packaged food via the barcode and Open Food Facts. If the amount is off, one tap corrects it, from ½ to 2×. There is no account and no tracking; entries stay on the iPhone. Three AI entries a day are free, one of them by photo; Premium raises that to thirty. The app is a one-person project from Styria, Austria.

“A calorie number from a photo, accurate to the kilocalorie, is not precision, it is a claim. I wanted an app that says what it knows, and what it doesn't.” – Rene Scheucher
